For many, many owners the J/105 is the perfect choice for racing with friends and family, weekend cruising and just tooling around!
The J/105 ushered in the 'Sprit Boat" revolution. When it was introduced, it seemed pretty radical. The idea seems to have caught on!
The J/105 certainly did. With almost 700 boats built, the J/105 is easily the largest "big-boat one-design" in existence. If you go to a NOOD regatta anywhere in the country, the odds are pretty good that the J/105 fleets will be one of, if not the largest class.
How does a 35 foot boat attract such great numbers, year after year after year? It's pretty simple really: The whole J/105 experience is designed to make sailing FUN, for the owner, his friends and family.
The owners drive, pros are limited to NONE and the sail inventory is strictly controlled. Nobody's buddy gets kicked off for a sailmaker at the big regatta. Going racing doesn't mean a new suit of sails for every event. Jibs are roller-furling and the Assym kite is easy to handle.
Granted, a 105 isn't a J/22 in terms of trailering. But, you can trailer it and lots of people do. Key West Race Week has a big fleet and then the fun travels up the coast. If you aren't paying pros, you can buy a lot of gas!
And yes, you can race the J/105 offshore too. In fact, the first J/105 that USWatercraft built won the Chicago Mackinac overall!
If you are looking to race with your friends, the J/105 might be the boat for you! |
