The Sail Area to Displacement of 27, couple with a Disp/L of 122 means that the boat can really go. The displacement is just under 3000 pounds, but about half of that is carried in the keel. The large asymetrical spinaker flown from the retractable pole gets the boat downhill fast but, makes boathandling easy. The boat's inherent stiffnes, real lifelines and class rules mean that your freinds and family don't spend every beat painfully hung over the lifelines like laundry. The cockpit is best described as gigantic, and the cabin, while not ready for world crusing, is accessible and could even be used for weekending with the addition of the optional cusions. A quick, unscientific poll of female sailors revealed that 100% would prefer changing clothes in a cabin as opposed to in the cockpit as is the case in other sportsboats. To top it all off, the J/80 class is extremely well-established and active. There are strong, well attended regattas all over the country. If you live in the real world, but still want a fast, fun sportsboat with great regattas all over the country, you can't go wrong with the J/80.
